FAQs
How Much Pottery Experience is Needed?
We ask that you have some experience with clay, and use the space responsibly.
First Time Renter, How Does it Work?
If you are interested in renting the space for the first time, please reach out to Bonnie, the owner of the space through the contact form on our website. She will set up a time meet with you and show you the space for your first visit, then you have the place to yourself to create!
How Much Does It Cost?
Day Use Studio Rental price is $30 a person per 1/2 day (morning or evening options).
Each kiln load is $25.00 or $5.00 per piece depending on your needs.
Open Studio Price is $10.00 per person/per hour spent at the studio. (Only available on specific days, see schedule page)
Can I bring pottery made outside Clay Altelier for glazing and firing?
Unfortuantly, as a small makers space, we don't have the time or capacity to manage work made outside the studio. Your pottery must be made at Clay Altelier. Pottery brought from home/other sources may not be made with the same material as ours, and could potentially explode during the firing process, damaging our kiln and the other pottery.
Do I Need to Bring my Own Materials?
You will need to provide your own clay and glaze for your projects. There is some clay available on site for purchase, please reach out to Bonnie to inquire about purchasing. Clay prices vary depending on clay type purchased. All clay and glazes must fire to cone 6.
What Equipment do You Have in the Studio?
The studio includes one wheel, a wedging table, multiple work surfaces for handbuilding, and a vast supply of community tools. There are also some molds for hand building.
How Long Does it Take for my Work to Get Fired?
Firing schedules are subject to change according to the quantity of work that is ready to fire. On average, we fire 1-2 rounds of bisque and 1 round of glaze per week.

We make our best effort to move all work through the kiln in a timely manner, but we are unable to guarantee that work will be finished on any particular timeline. We are also unable to guarantee that work will be fired on a first come, first served basis.
If you have a specific deadline for a particular piece (for example, a birthday gift) please give us at least three weeks' notice of the deadline. We will do our best to accommodate these requests, but they are not guaranteed.
Cancellations and Refunds?
We do not offer refunds for gift cards or clay.
Can I Book a Private Event?
Yes! Because the space is small, we offer private event rental on a case by case basis. Please reach our using our contact form for more information.
